Health Education Classes
We offer a wide variety of classes on health issues, many free of charge. Topics include: asthma, diabetes, weight management, smoking cessation and more. Small group education and individual programs are available by appointment. All classes are taught by registered dietitians and registered nurses.

Diabetes
This four-part program is nationally recognized by the American Diabetes Association (ADA), and provides information on diet and skills of self-managing diabetes. The classes our taught in fun and interactive sessions. Also included, free-of-charge, is an individual consult with an educator and free blood sugar monitor.
Diabetes in Pregnancy
This class is specially designed for the mother with diabetes during pregnancy. Causes, risk factors, meal planning, exercise, blood sugar goals and healthy lifestyle changes are discussed. The goal of the class is to help women achieve normal blood sugars and meet the nutritional needs of the baby and mother.
Asthma
Asthma flare-ups can often be prevented. This class provides the patient with an understanding of the pathophysiology of asthma and basic knowledge of environmental control, medications and self-monitoring techniques, including use of the peak flow meter.
Heart Healthy Habits
This program discusses cholesterol, heart disease, and prevention. Diet, exercise, medications, low-fat cooking and additional resources are discussed to assist participants in developing "heart healthy" habits.
Hypertension
This class helps to increase awareness of the risk factors for high blood pressure (hypertension) and outlines prevention of possible complications of hypertension through living a healthy lifestyle and/or medical management by your physician.
Smoking Cessation
The goal of this class is to assist smokers who are ready to quit by providing tools to overcome the habit.
Medicare Meetings
At St. Joseph Health, we understand how overwhelming Medicare can be. We know that you're flooded with information, which can make it difficult to know what to do and when to do it. Whether you're just turning 65, have been on Medicare for some time, or have Medi-Cal and Medicare, we can help.
